If Karl Case is confused….

I saw an interesting interview the other day on PBS with Karl Case.  Mr. Case is the co-founder of the most respected index that measures residential real estate sales. The Case-Schiller Index I find to be very useful for tracking the markets, even in unusual markets like Hillcrest and Mission Hills.

When asked by the interviewer about the future of the residential real estate market, Mr. Case danced around the issue like it was a live grenade. In other words, he is as confused as the rest of us.  He waxed on about the “mixed signals” in this market. I am often asked the same question, “How is the market?”  I generally give the same answer as Mr. Case, dancing around and failing to give a definitive prediction.

Dr. Case should know and does not. I respect his candor and wealth of research knowledge and experience. So I feel better about my own ambivalence.

So I am wondering what to do with all of the playoff tickets I put together in anticipation of the Pads making the playoffs. The World Series tickets are very impressive and will make great book marks. Sticker price for behind home plate? $250. My east coast friends say those prices are really cheap and I think I missed a great scalping opportunity.

The games would have been more fun. I remember the buzz around town in 1998 when, if memory serves, our local nine made it to the Series, only to be crushed in four games by the Evil Empire.

There is always next year.
